Don't Hit Skip!

Now, I know, as a working pro or an aspiring talent, you spend hours a day practicing to hone or perfect your skills, right? Working on things like inflection, interpretation, accents, breathing. And after all this hard work, hey, you deserve a break! So you decide to sit down and check out the latest collection of funny fails on YouTube, but somebody had the nerve to throw up an irritating commercial right between you and that flabby dad about to fall off his daughter's Little Mermaid pool float. Oh, sure, you could show them and get right to the hilarity by pushing that little skip button. But wait, do that, and you're missing an opportunity to hear working, paid professional voice actors doing their job, your job. You know, a huge market for voices is in advertising and if you don't listen to them, how will you know what's desirable or trending? I'll go even further. When you're watching live sports on TV or maybe even your favorite streamer that's suddenly added commercials to your paid subscription. Don't use the ad breaks to run to the kitchen. Sit tight. Listen to the voice work. Grab that notebook or iPad you've certainly set down next to you and jot down the spots you like or the performances you could learn from. Next day, look up those videos on YouTube or on iSpot TV. These are great resources and use them to guide your practice.
